Electrical Apprentice

Job Summary

Working under the direct supervision of Senior Electricians, this electrical apprentice position provides hands-on training in electrical installation, troubleshooting, and controls systems at lift stations, booster systems, and treatment plant facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is eager to build a career in industrial and infrastructure electrical work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Electricians with electrical installations including panels, conduit, wiring, and associated equipment at municipal water and wastewater facilities.

  • Support field work on motors, pumps, and electromechanical control systems.

  • Assist with troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems, including power delivery components and field instrumentation.

  • Help install and support control system components such as floats, probes, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).

  • Assist with preventative maintenance tasks including electrical system evaluations and equipment inspections.

  • Support SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system integration and remote monitoring activities as directed.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and job site organization in accordance with safety standards.

  • Complete all assigned tasks in compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and company procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising Senior Electrician.

Primary Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.

  • Physical ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in industrial field environments.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand and power tools.

  • Prior electrical coursework, vocational training, or related work experience preferred but not required.

  • Willingness to enroll in a registered electrical apprenticeship program if/when required by the company.

  • Reliable and punctual — consistently reports to job sites on time and prepared to work.

  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to take on physical, hands-on tasks.

  • Takes direction well and follows instructions accurately and safely.

  • Attention to detail, particularly in safety-critical field environments.

  • Demonstrates a proactive attitude toward learning new skills and techniques.

  • Maintains a professional and respectful demeanor with coworkers, clients, and the public.

Work Conditions

This position is primarily field-based with regular travel to project sites throughout North Carolina, including municipal water and wastewater facilities. Work is performed outdoors and in industrial environments, including confined spaces, lift stations, and treatment plants. Extended hours may be required during critical system failures, emergency response situations, or peak workload periods. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and will be provided.

  • Basic Life Insurance - Full-time employees receive employer paid group life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance in the amount of $50,000. Benefit amounts begin reducing at age 65 and again at age 70.

  • Disability Insurance - In the event the employee becomes disabled from a non-work related injury or sickness, disability income benefits are provided as a source of income. The employee is not eligible to receive short-term disability benefits if the employee is receiving workers’ compensation benefits.
